原Lady Hester Stanhope was a British socialite, adventurer and traveler. Her archaeological expedition to Ashkelon in 1815 is considered the first modern excavation in the history of Holy Land archeology. Her use of a medieval Italian document is described as "one of the earliest uses of textual sources by field archaeologists".
原Can't decide if I like this or not... On one hand, it sounds like a boy's name (probably because of Devon Hester of the Chicago Bears) but on the other it sounds like an interesting yet underrated girl's name. But it really does remind me of the Scarlett letter, and I've never even read that book.
原Seriously - how could anyone, after reading The Scarlet Letter, NOT like this name? It's a little old-fashioned, but certainly not hopeless. Hester Prynne had a lot of guts - and after a generation of Tiffanys, Jessicas, and Madisons, America definitely needs an influx of gutsier, stronger girls' names!
原It's prettier than Esther, and it doesn't sound as old-fashioned and so much like the name of some old, unattractive woman. This is one of the few names ending in -er that sound feminine, yet the name isn't too girly. The problem is that it kind of makes me think of a horse because of the Swedish word for 'horse', 'häst', which is pronounced ''HEST''. Besides, I wouldn't want the name of my child to be a variant of any name with a religious background.
原I'm sure this name is unisex. There was a C19 American politician called Hestor L. Stevens and I've seen a male bearer of this name in some other fiction. I do prefer it with an O and for a guy.
