原My great grandmother born in the 1890's in Hartlepool UK had this name! In each census it is spelt differently- Alethea, Eletha and Elothe! Her other Christian name was also never spelt the same way twice but family history has it as Bella-Paranda after the name of a ship! No one knows why. I do not know where the name Aletha came from in our family but the family seems rooted in the north east of England. If I find out more I'll post it!
原Aletha Solter (PhD) is a Swiss/American developmental psychologist who studied with Jean Piaget. Her specialist areas are attachment, trauma, and non-punitive discipline.
原My mother who was born in Canada was called Aletha and gave me that name. I always wondered whether the name originated in North America, I have passed it on to my children and then their grandchildren but it is not used in England. People always remark on it here.
