Ashanti is however, from the French word: Enchante which means: Enchanting, Enchanted, Charming, Captivating.
And although Anglicized in its pronunciation now: Ashanti, it can be pronounced Enchantè (with a light sound on "en" at the beginning that makes it almost sound like "an", with the "ch" having a typical "sh" sound, and a long "ee" sound at the end).

When they hear her songs (because the parents are guaranteed to have saved at least one), they'll look at their parents angrily and say: "I was named after HER?!" It will be awkward indeed. Come on now, you are just as American as white people. Don't pick this clearly foreign name unless you have actual bonds to the culture it came from.
