原Iullus Antonius was the youngest son of Mark Antony by his third wife Fulvia. He was raised by Augustus' sister Octavia after his father commited suicide in 30 BC. Iullus was praetor, consul and Asian proconsul. He also wrote twelve volumes of poetry, which have survived today. He is probably most famously known as being Julia Augusti's, daughter of Augustus, lover. He was the only one of her lovers put to death. He commited suicide before doing so in 2 BC.
原Antonius (feminine Antonia) was the nomen of the gens Antonia, one of the most important plebeian (meaning not patrician) families of ancient Rome. The family claimed descendancy from Anton, a son of the Greek god Hercules. Women of the family carried the name Antonia, according to the Roman naming convention. The Antonii produced several important Roman generals and politicians, most notably Marcus Antonius and his son Iullus Antonius.
