When I hear an unusual name, I assume there is a meaning;a reason; a story; that is important to the parent and is the reason for naming their child that particular name. But regardless, we are more than just our name. Kinda like a title to a book, which is really irrelevant because it's understanding what's in the inside that matters most.

So essentially they're setting up a child and everyone who runs into him for some awkward explaining and, should they run into me, lowered expectations. When I see spellings that are twisted unreasonably far from the expected spelling or worse, spellings that pervert the actual pronunciation, I assume the person is as dumb as the person that named them. I know it's unfair, and I'm easily proven wrong, but considering how easy it is to spell Mason the right way with 5 letters, I have to assume that Maison--6 letters-- got his name because his mom was too dumb to know any better.
原Pushing the negative associations aside (and, believe me, the list is nearly endless... it's trendiness is only the surface of the quandary), I think that Mason has an amiable, warm sound to it. It is handsome and durable, but simultaneously young, peripheral, and childlike (which, in my opinion, is unfavorable, and should be considered by parents looking at the name).
