原I'm surprised others had never heard of a girl named Toni before. I've met at least one woman/girl from every age-group with this name, it's the only boyish/unisex name I find timeless for girls. But personally I like it best as a nickname to something ultra-feminine like Antonia or Antoinette.
原I have a friend named Toni, and she does get made fun of sometimes - nobody here realizes that it's a girls' name with an I at the end. They don't get out much, though. The Toni I know was named after her dad, who went by Tony.
原Well my name is Toni and personally I love my name because you don't really meet a lot of people with this name. It is unique for a unique girl. No matter what people have said about my name I just say to myself it doesn't matter who likes it or not as long as I like it.
原Though I was named after my grandmother, Antonette, I have always used Toni as a nickname. It has imparted a certain stubbornness and strength to me, and a "quiet dignity and refinement", as an instructor once told me. While it is not completely feminine, it is not a "tomboy" name, either. It is unique. The only downside was that there were so many Tonies in my generation, that whenever you were in the hall at high school you didn't know whether someone was trying to get your attention or someone else's.
原As a bearer of this name, when I was little I really disliked it, because as I was often told it was a 'boy's name'. It also got confused with Joni, Tori, and was often misspelled. Everyone thinks it's a very tomboyish name, and I'm a complete girly girl. However, since I've grown up, it has grown on me, and I couldn't think of another name I'd like to be. I'm glad I'm not a Jessica, the other name my parents were contemplating. :)
