原I moved from Portland, Oregon to Boaz, Alabama a couple years ago & have wondered where the name originated from. I am Native American & am not that familiar with the Bible other than what I learned in Sunday school as a child but since I practice the spirituality of my ancestors rather than following organized religion I was curious what the name meant & where it came from. This site was very helpful in educating me as to its historical significance. However moving to the south where there is a church on every corner, practically & nearly everyone is a conservative republican, I am not at all surprised to find it is a biblical name. Thank you for letting me know where my town's name comes from.
原It's quite an interesting name, I'm starting to like it more and more. And though it has a strong Biblical association, it's not like you're naming your child Delilah.
原The more I look at this name, the more I like it. It sounds cool, has the very workable nickname "Bo," and the Boaz from the Bible was respectable and worth honoring. He was an ancestor of Christ, too. I'm definitely adding this to my list of boy names.
原My son is called Boaz and we often shorten it to Bo. He has a very gentle nature like his Biblical namesake. It is not a common name in the UK but I'm told it is very common in Israel.
