原The name Gus was given to 121 baby boys born in the US in 2012. I think it's a nice, underused, rugged name. Personally, I like it best when it's a nickname for August :)

原It's a tad old-fashioned, but not in a bad way. The name is short and simple, and not too boyish either. It's not the greatest name out there, but it's not bad either. It makes me think about Gus Gus (or gusgus), which is a rather ambiguous association to me, as the band was cool in the 90s but has been crap ever since.
原Because of Gus the Theater Cat (mentioned in an earlier comment), I always, seriously thought Asparagus was a real human name. I typed it in today fully expecting there to be an article - but it turns out Gus is only short for Augustine, Angus, or (by strange Greek logic that I'll have to look up sometime) Constantine.

原My brother's name is Gus and when we were in Austria, people constantly called him Goose, like a long U sound. So now, to pay him out, we call him Goose. So yeah, that's another pronunciation. :)
