原In my name book, this is what it says about the name Meraud: it is often assumed that the name is derived from "Emerald", but others suggest that it is more likely to have evolved from an earlier Celtic name, perhaps based on "mur" (the sea). Confined largely to Cornwall, where records of it go back to the 13th century. :)
