原In an English-speaking country this name unfortunately might get a few double-takes. But, as LoQuiero said, it carries none of the same implications in the countries where it is popular because the word "nigger" doesn't exist in the Kurdish language, or at least not in that form. Although personally, I don't think that this name sounds very offensive even in English. I doubt that I would even make the association with the pronunciation and context of an actual conversation. Looking at the name written just on its own is somewhat different.
原I really don't know what comments like the ones above are for, as they are obviously written by people who don't think twice. I doubt someone in the U.S. would call his/her daughter Nîga, yes, of course - but after all, it's a KURDISH name, so I don't see why you people write something about "Who the hell would call his child Nîga?!", because in Turkey, Armenia etc. it's a normal name and a very beautiful one, too. Just because it makes YOU think of the word "nigger" doesn't mean it's a name that cannot be used at all.
