原My name is Amethyst! I think it's a great name for various reasons, like my favorite color is amethyst purple. For one thing whenever I meet a new person, generally adults tend to say this, they say: "That's a beautiful name." or "What a wonderful name you have", or something along those lines. Then they ask me whether my birthstone is amethyst and it's not...
It's rare and I haven't met another Amethyst personally before in my life, it makes me feel really unique, you know?
I've read the other comments and they said things about nicknames being "Amey" or "Amy". However, I've never been called that, everyone calls me "Ammy". I've been called "Klippy" before (Afrikaans for pebble), or just "Am".
Another thing that I find really amusing is that LOADS of people spell my name wrong, or don't know how to spell it and have to ask me.
Amethyst is a great name for someone if you really want them to be proud of their name and get lots of compliments for it.

I agree with her, one hundred percent :) Amethysts are purple (purple used to represent royal) shining gems, worth hundreds. Imagine growing up, knowing you were named after something like that? It would be awesome.
原The origin is fairly amusing. I was first put off by the '-thyst' ending, just because it sounds a bit odd frankly, however it's still very beautiful and I quickly got over it. I think naming a child after a gemstone is perfectly good. Every time you say their name you will be reminded of shining, colourful things.
